What is VoteIn ?

Vote IN is a democracy app that simplifies access to the voting process.

How will it help ?

Citizens can register, verify their status, and cast their votes instantly, can you believe all in one simple, user-friendly platform.

Problems that users and I faced !

During voting time, Indian citizens needs to face some issue like fraud, duplicate voting, mainly because of the force of the ruling party in there area.

The solution I created !

So, rather than physically going to the electoral center, users can caste there vote directly with this platform with the benefit staying at there home.

Before solving a problem, I usually try to break the problem statement into buckets so that I don't shift away from the actual problem and be focused.

After breaking the problem statement, the scope of the problem has been narrowed down, thus leading to a more focused solution.

Lets start with the first problem bucket

You might have a question, how will this problem bucket help me or why is it important ?

Raj shared his bad experience in a city like Mumbai !

Because of intense weather, citizens leave the station breaking the flow,

resulting in casting no vote !

After analyzing 50+ Reddit threads, I got to know about many problems, two of the major problems are, first one is long queue's and second one is harsh weather conditions in summer.

You might ask, how citizens dropping off

there ability to vote is a severe concern

As we know India is a secular country and how important is it for the entire nation to choose there responsible candidate.

No shades in harsh summer

Long queues, leading to dropping of

votes to deserving candidates !

But because of external factors like long queue or extensive heat, users are dropping off and not casting there votes.

Thus leading to a government, which is lead by a corrupt and exploiting representative.

So, Rather than randomly throwing my arrows,

I do this !

I add specific constraints before I design the flow. It keeps me honest, focused, and grounded in what the user actually needs.

These constraints turn “seamless verification” into a clear promise the user can feel - quick, consistent, and trustworthy.

Lets see what have I designed !

The Indian citizen only needs to input there phone number, then with the help of Digilocker - all there documents are fetched automatically.

Documents like Vote ID Card (EPIC), which is the most important document for and Indian Citizen.

Only integrating this simple feature, reduces all the load of verification.

Oh! No I just realised something

Edge case - 1

During the voting period, due to huge number of daily verification, the server will be slowdown and data fetching will be delayed.

This will result in bad user experience and user drop off metric will increase, thus raising the same issue in a physical electoral center.

So how did I solved Edge Case -1 ?

I added notifications to provide real-time updates about the user’s actions—whether their data was correctly entered, whether the OTP was sent successfully, etc.

Ensuring the user that there information

is correct.

Giving them real-time updates of there verification process

This direct communication with users helps build trust and transparency.

Ensuring the user feels connected and truly heard.

Omg! how can I forget user group

in which I lie.

Edge case - 2

The attention span of the gen-z audience has reduced to 6 sec (not mine*), which prevents them from filling long verification forms.

And we know how "chanchal" they are, we need to make sure they could fill the form in few clicks without getting lost in the flow.

So how did I prevented Edge Case - 2 ?

I added a Progress bar to show where the user stands now, and how much left.

Percentage and no of steps for the colour blind users.

Green progress bar, to calculate how much is left.

Along with the green progress bar, I have attached percentage as well as number of steps for users who are color-blind.

This will result in 90% of the user base verifying there documents, without any hassle.

Did you realised one thing !

Just by this simple design decision, I was able to solve the entire chaos of verification.

The Indian citizen need not stand in long queues and eventually pass there verification. Now come the most important part "Casting Vote".

Then comes the second problem bucket

Streamlined experience of voting

You might have actually faced this same problem, in your area your polling booths are taken over by the ruling parties.

Polling agents in Motihari Assembly (booth# 229, 230) are giving voter slips

with the BJP party symbol and Modi's photo, directly trying to influence voters

Then after taking over the booth, those representatives force you to vote for there part.

BJP ally & Shinde Sena MLA Santosh Bangar captured the

polling booth in Hingoli Municipal Corporation elections

Additionally they make the EVM malfunction so that what so ever you click the vote will be casted to there party itself.

While researching I actually found out, this problem was not in my area but all over India.

I actually did some crazy sh*t !

Do you remember one thing, when you went for casting your vote, you were ment to verify your pan card and vote card.

Can you recall you verified one more thing !

Biometric Fingerprint Reader

This is the most safest way of verification

Cause every Indian Citizen has unique fingerprints

You might ask

Why should you be concerned about it ?

This was the one of the most important steps. Because long standing queues happed because of this.

So, to solve this the user needs to manually buy the fingerprint machine, and verify by them selves. Just plug the device, and VoteIN will do it all by it own.
